Social media video for small businesses: one shoot, a month of posts

The businesses that do well on social aren't the ones with the biggest budgets. They're the ones that post good, real video regularly. Here is how to make that easy.

Plan before you film

Write down five or six ideas before anyone picks up a camera. Each one is a single short video with one point. When the ideas are clear, a half-day shoot can comfortably give you eight to twelve short videos.

Ideas that work for almost any business

  • How it's made: your product or service from start to finish, in 20 seconds.
  • Meet the team: one person, one question, one honest answer.
  • A day in the life: opening up, the busy hour, closing time.
  • Customer questions: answer the thing everyone asks, on camera.
  • Before and after: the job, the room, the result.
  • Behind the counter: the details customers never see.

Captions are not optional

Captions help everyone who scrolls with the sound off, and subtitles are now mainstream: in a May 2026 survey (XR Extreme Reach), 79% of UK viewers said they use them at least some of the time. Burn captions into every video, and check names and jargon, because automatic captions get those wrong.

Music

Business accounts should use music licensed for commercial use. Trending sounds in the apps are often licensed for personal accounts only, and posts using them can be muted or removed.

How often to post

Consistency beats volume. Two or three good videos a week, every week, will do more than ten in one week and nothing for a month. A monthly shoot that gives you eight to twelve videos keeps that rhythm without you thinking about it.

Do it yourself, or get help?

Phones are very good now, and plenty of businesses film their own content well. Where a professional helps is the planning, the sound and light, getting relaxed performances from staff, and the edit. A good middle ground: film yourself day to day, and have a professional shoot once a month for the content that has to look its best.

Our social plans start at £395 for a one-off shoot and four videos, or £595 a month for a monthly shoot and eight videos, plus VAT.
